Junior Lizelle Jackson (Palmdale, Calif.) and sophomore Dana Demayo (Ra'anana,
Israel) each recorded double-doubles for Long Island, which
reached 30 victories this season with a 3-0 triumph (30-18,
30-18, 30-18) at St. Francis (NY) in Brooklyn Heights.
Jackson went on a tear early
and did not let up, closing with 10 killls, a .347 hitting
percentage and 17 digs. It was her 15th double-double this
season and the eighth time in the last nine matches she has
accomplished this.
Demayo continued her solid play
with 11 kills and 15 digs for her team-leading 23rd double-double
this year. It is the 30th time this season she has notched at least
10 kills.
Senior Ivana Vasiljevic (Brcko,
Bosnia & Herzegovina) ended with 32 assists and junior Adela
Igniska (Baia Mare, Romania) added 15 for LIU (30-6), which
won its ninth straight match -- already a school record -- and added
to its team-high victory total.
The Blackbirds notched a 49-28
edge in kills, which included 19 in game three for a .471 hitting
percentage. They also closed the match with a .384 percentage
en route to their 18th three-game victory this season.
Esther Lima had 11 kills and
Megan Lundquist added 22 assists for the Terriers.
LIU is seeded second in the Northeast
Conference Tournament and opens Saturday in the semifinals
against the winner of the first-round match between No. 3 Central
Connecticut State and No. 6 Fairleigh Dickinson. |
