10/16/04 -- Junior Melanie Fleig (Villingen, Germany) and senior Cristina Pintilie (Cluj Napoca, Romania) each closed with 18 kills and 14 digs for Long Island in its fifth straight win, 3-0 (30-24, 30-18, 30-28) over Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J.

Fleig and Pintilie recorded three kills apiece during a match-ending 10-6 run that helped the Blackbirds (20-5) overcome a 22-20 deficit in game three. Sophomore Dana Demayo (Ra’anana, Israel) added two kills in that stretch as she and Pintilie each had a block assist to end the match.

LIU compiled 25 kills in the final game en route to an overwhelming 65-29 edge in the match for its first victory over Seton Hall in four outings. It finished the day with a .268 hitting percentage vs. .064 for the Pirates (6-17).

Senior Ivana Vasiljevic (Brcko, Bosnia & Herzegovina) totaled 49 assists with 19 digs and Demayo finished with 16 kills and 17 digs. Freshman Jasmine Perez (Kingwood, Texas) contributed 10 digs of LIU’s 83 digs.

Shawn McDonald had 24 assists and 11 digs with Jennifer Procuniar adding 18 digs for Seton Hall.

The Blackbirds moved within one victory of equaling the school record for most wins set in 2002 and one victory shy of matching its season-best winning streak. They can reach both in their next match Tuesday at home against La Salle, beginning at 7:00 pm.
