11/4/04 -- Sophomore Dana Demayo (Ra’anana, Israel) became the school’s single-season digs leader and junior Lizelle Jackson (Palmdale, Calif.) tied the single-match aces record for Long Island University, which rolled to a 3-0 (30-21, 30-21, 30-7) Northeast Conference victory over Wagner at Schwartz Center.

Demayo finished with six digs to give her 496 this season, eclipsing the mark of 494 set two seasons ago by senior Ivana Vasiljevic (Brcko, Bosnia & Herzegovina). Demayo, the 2003 NEC Rookie of the Year, also closed tonight with 10 kills over 18 errorless attacks for a .556 hitting percentage.

Jackson served nine aces to tie the school’s single-match record held by Loressa Berona (1999-2002), who set the mark against Maryland Eastern Shore on September 24, 1999. Demayo added five aces to help LIU (26-6, 4-1 NEC) gain a decided 19-2 advantage.

Vasiljevic came close to setting a record of her own, totaling three digs to give her 1,273 career and move her just two behind Berona of tying LIU’s all-time mark.

By improving to 9-0 at Schwartz Center this season, LIU equaled the school record for most home victories set in 2000. Its overall five-match winning streak is one shy of a season best accomplished twice.

The Blackbirds closed things in game three with nine kills over 18 errorless attacks. Jackson served five of the team’s 11 aces in that game and Demayo pounded four kills. The Seahawks (3-29, 1-6) ended the game with four kills and eight errors.

Jackson had six kills with senior Cristina Pintilie (Cluj Napoca, Romania) and junior Melanie Fleig (Villingen, Germany) adding five in LIU’s sixth straight victory over Wagner. Jackson also compiled seven digs and Demayo contributed six.

Lydia Emnott closed with 29 assists and seven digs for the Seahawks with Trish Morris pounding eight kills.

LIU plays its regular-season home finale Sunday against Sacred Heart, beginning at 5:00 pm.
