Sara Oblak Repeats as NEC Rookie of the Week

12/20/04 -- Sophomore Sara Oblak (Skofja Loka, Slovenia), who has solidified her role as Long Island University’s starting center, today repeated as Northeast Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Oblak last Thursday matched her season high with 16 points and added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in LIU’s 68-55 triumph over New Orleans. In addition to shooting 7-of-16 from the field overall, she scored five points during a 17-2 run that gave the Blackbirds a 27-10 lead with 3:56 remaining in the first half.

The 6-2 Oblak earned the award one week after scoring 15 points December 7 at Wagner and 16 points four days later at Columbia. She has averaged 15.3 points and 5.0 rebounds over her last four games, is fourth in the NEC by shooting 51 percent from the floor and 14th with 11.6 points per game.

LIU (4-3), winners in three of its last four outings, tonight hosts Fresno State. Tip-off is at 7:00 pm.
