LIU Drops 1-0 Decision to Washington State

9/18/05 -- Long Island University dropped a 1-0 decision to Washington State on Sunday afternoon in the closing game of the Oregon State Nike Classic at Paul Lorenz Field. The Blackbirds fall to 3-4 on the season and the Cougars improve to 5-2.

The teams played a scoreless 74 minutes before the Cougars struck with the lone goal of the game. Off a 25-year corner kick from the right side, midfielder Anna Miller delivered a low ball into the box which was tapped into the air by Allison Scurich. With a flurry of activity in front of the box, senior Alix Rustrum headed in the loose ball for the game's only score.

Senior forward Jackie McCormick (Liverpool, N.Y.) registered two shots on goal for the Blackbirds. The Cougars posted a 14-3 shot advantage, including a 9-1 differential in the second half.

Long Island keeper Felicia Amaral (Oxford, Mass.) recorded three saves and its tenacious defense stopped one.
