Island University women’s soccer player Jackie
McCormick (Liverpool, N.Y.) was chosen as a Valley National
Bank Scholar-Athlete
award winner
by the Northeast Conference. A first team all-NEC selection each of the last two years and
a second team pick as a sophomore, McCormick ended her career
as the Blackbirds' all-time leader in assists (15) and ranks
second in goals (20) and points (55). She helped lead Long Island
to the conference finals this past season following a second
place regular season finish. A member of LIU's Honor's Program,
she is an English major with a 3.61 grade point average.
During NEC-televised basketball
games, a different student-athlete will
be chosen from each participating school
as a Valley National
Bank Scholar-Athlete. At the conclusion of the basketball season,
a donation in honor of each institution’s award winners
and on behalf of Valley National Bank will be presented to every
NEC school for use in their general scholarship funds.
In addition, Valley is sponsoring the "Valley National
Bank Academic Awards" program, which includes the Valley
National Bank Student-Athlete of the Year, the Valley National
Bank Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards (presented to one winner
in each of the conference’s 21 sports) and the Valley National
Bank NEC Honor Roll (comprised of student-athletes who have earned
a minimum grade point average of 3.2 or higher).
