-- Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Kansky (Bellevue,
Wash.) was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week
on Monday. She is the third women's soccer player to earn
individual accolades this season, and second to receive Player
of the Week honors.
Kansky posted back-to-back shutouts
and helped LIU clinch a spot in the NEC Tournament
following a pair of 1-0 victories
over Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart last week.
She recorded five saves against FDU on Friday, including a crucial
stop in the 73rd minute to preserve the win. She turned away
two more shots versus Sacred Heart on Sunday as the Blackbirds
extended their win streak to four and unbeaten streak to eight
entering the postseason.
The Bellevue, Wash. native, who
matched a school record with her 13th career shutout, is tied
with teammate
Felicia Amaral (Oxford, Mass.) for
first in the conference with a 0.76 goals against average.
Seniors
Meghann McCormick (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Jackie McCormick (Liverpool,
N.Y.) were named
BigAppleSoccer.com Players of the Week.
Jackie tallied the game-winning
goal in the 69th minute of a 1-0 win against Fairleigh Dickinson
on Friday, while twin Meghann notched the lone goal of the
game
in a 1-0 blanking of Sacred Heart on Sunday.
The twins are the second and
third women's soccer players to receive BigAppleSoccer.com
recognition. Junior Selima Berisha (Bellevue, Wash.) took home
the honor last week. LIU enters the NEC Tournament
as the #2 seed and will face #3 St. Francis (Pa.) in a semifinal
matchup on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Blackbirds defeated the
Red Flash in a home contest earlier this season, 2-1.
