11/3/05 -- Long Island University seniors Fab Rezayat (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Jackie McCormick (Liverpool, N.Y.) were selected first team All-Northeast Conference in balloting conducted by league head coaches and released Thursday evening. Juniors Stephanie Kansky (Bellevue, Wash.) and Allison Andreano (Denville, N.J.) were named to the league’s second squad.

Due in large part to Rezayat’s contributions on defense, Long Island has yielded just 14 goals overall and six in league play this season, both league-lows. She was also a key member of a unit that set the school record for fewest goals against last season. A four-year starter for the Blackbirds, her team leadership was noted when she was named co-captain at the beginning of the 2005 campaign.

McCormick has now banked two straight first team accolades and is a three-time award recipient. In 2005, the forward has tallied five goals and ranks seventh in the league in assists (six) and eighth in scoring (16 points). McCormick is also second on the circuit with four game-winning markers, including three in the last four games as the Blackbirds take an eight-game unbeaten streak into the postseason.
Kansky, a second team performer in 2003, often served as the centerpiece of the league’s top-ranked defensive unit and concluded the regular season with a 7-1-1 record between the pipes. She is tied with teammate Felicia Amaral for the league lead with a 0.76 goals against average and her three shutouts in 2005 lifted her career total to 13, tying her for first all-time at the school.

Andreano has registered two goals, and her five assists rank second on the LIU squad. Her remarkable play-making ability and ability to react quickly at the center-midfield position have been key in establishing a new program record in victories this season (12).

The Blackbirds begin postseason play on Friday, Nov. 3 against St. Francis (Pa.) in a Northeast Conference tournament semifinal match. The game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and will be preceded by the first semifinal matchup, pitting host Central Connecticut State against Sacred Heart at 11:00 a.m.
