10/30/06 -- Long Island University senior forward Selima Berisha (Bellevue, Wash.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic District I University Division Second Team, as announced by College Sports Information Directors of America officials on Thursday.

A speech communications major, Berisha has earned a 3.63 cumulative grade point average over her three years at LIU.

Berisha has been an integral part of the Blackbirds’ rise to the top of the Northeast Conference over the past several seasons. As a freshman, she led the team with seven goals and again tallied seven and added four assists last year.

This year, the senior has four goals, including the game-winning tally against Sacred Heart. For her career, Berisha is tied for second in Long Island history with 20 goals, ranks second in game-winning goals (11) and ranks third in career points (47).

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better and must have completed her freshman year.

LIU is 11-7-1 overall and finished the regular season with the best record in the NEC (8-1). The Blackbirds will host the NEC Tournament on Nov. 3-5, and will begin the competition on Friday, Nov. 3 against No. 4 Sacred Heart at 11:00 a.m.
