senior forward Selima Berisha (Bellevue, Wash.) was named
to the ESPN The Magazine Academic
District I University Division Second Team, as announced
by College Sports Information Directors of America officials
on Thursday.
A speech communications major, Berisha has earned a 3.63
cumulative grade point average over her three years at
LIU.
Berisha has been an integral part of the Blackbirds’ rise
to the top of the Northeast Conference over the past several
seasons. As a freshman, she led the team with seven goals
and again tallied seven and added four assists last year.
This year, the senior has four goals, including the game-winning
tally against Sacred Heart. For her career, Berisha is
tied for second in Long Island history with 20 goals, ranks
second in game-winning goals (11) and ranks third in career
points (47).
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration,
a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or
better and must have completed her freshman year.
LIU is 11-7-1 overall and finished the regular season with
the best record in the NEC (8-1). The Blackbirds will host
the NEC Tournament on Nov. 3-5, and will begin the competition
on Friday, Nov. 3 against No. 4 Sacred Heart at 11:00 a.m.
