9/17/06 -- Freshman Tasia Davis (San Francisco, Calif.) scored her first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute to lift Long Island University to a 1-0 victory over Binghamton University this afternoon in women’s college soccer action at LIU Field.

For the Blackbirds (3-5), the win extended the team’s home unbeaten streak to 20 games. LIU is 19-0-1 and has not been defeated on its home turf since Oct. 19, 2003.

After a scoreless first half, Davis sprinted up the middle of the field for 35 yards at the midway point of the second stanza. With a pair of Bears defenders on her, she slid a pass to sophomore Christina O’Connor (Venetia, Pa.) on the left side just inside the 18-yard box. O’Connor deposited the ball back to Davis for the game-winning header.

The Blackbirds outshot their visitors by a 12-8 count, including an 8-2 advantage in the first half. Senior Stephanie Kansky and junior Felicia Amaral split time at the goalkeeper position for LIU, registering a combined four stops. Kristie Bowers had five saves for the Bears, who move to 2-4-2 on the fall.

LIU entertains Oregon State on Friday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m.
