9/3/06 -- Coming off a shutout of Rider, the Long Island University women’s soccer team (1-3) was dealt a shutout of its owns at the hands of Columbia (1-0-1). The Lions scored a goal in each half to defeat the Blackbirds, 2-0.

Columbia opened the scoring in the 30th minute, when Shannon Munoz scored on a bicycle kick from right in front of the net. Munoz was assisted by Cassie Hamar on the play. The Lions added an insurance goal in the 87th minute, this one set up by Munoz on a corner kick. Sophie Reiser netted the goal.

The Blackbirds were outshot 17-7. Columbia’s Rebecca Taylor notched the shutout by making three saves. LIU’s Stephanie Kansky (Bellvue, Wash.) made six stops.

Allison Andreano (Denville, N.J.) and Caley Troutman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each took a pair of shots for Long Island.

The Blackbirds will return home on Wednesday, Sept. 6 to host Delaware State at 4:00 p.m.
