9/6/06 -- Senior forward Selima Berisha (Belluvue, Wash.) registered three goals and classmate Allison Andreano (Denville, N.J.) became the all-time assist leader as Long Island University cruised to an 8-0 win over Delaware State in women’s soccer action at LIU Field.

Freshman forward Aly Hanson (New Milford, N.J.) notched two goals and senior Christine Gans (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had a pair of assists as the Blackbirds moved to 2-3 on the season. With the triumph, LIU is now 18-0-1 in its last 19 games at home.

The Blackbirds scored their first score in the 11th minute when Berisha slipped a rebound shot past Hornets goalkeeper Tara McQueen. Andreano assisted on the play, raising her career total to 16- a new LIU record.

Thirteen minutes later, Berisha scored unassisted from the right side to push the advantage to 2-0. Senior Tiffany Dunbar (Naperville, Ill.) delivered her first career score and the game’s third goal in the 32nd minute off a flick thru from freshman Neddie King (Williamsville, N.Y.).

Andreano worked her way through traffic in the 55th minute to move LIU to a 4-0 lead. Hanson netted the game’s next two scores, both off feeds from Gans in a five-minute span.

Junior Caley Troutman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Berisha concluded the scoring with goals in the 82nd and 90th minutes, respectively.

The Blackbirds launched 21 shots in comparison to the Hornets’ five. Senior Stephanie Kansky shared time in goal with junior Felicia Amaral and freshman Angela Schmacher. Kansky and Amaral each recorded a stop.

LIU returns to action on Sunday, September 10, facing Stanford at 12:00. The game is being played at Rutgers University.
