9/13/06 -- Long Island University dropped a 2-1 double overtime decision to Drexel University in college women’s soccer action on Wednesday evening in Philadelphia

The Blackbirds (2-5) had numerous chances to score in the decisive second overtime period, recording four shots. Junior Catie Blake was called for a questionable hand ball in the box which set up a penalty kick by Aleka Yiantsos in the 106th minute of play.

Freshman Aly Hanson (New Milford, N.J.) notched her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 77th minute. Senior Christine Gans (Pittsburgh, Pa.) assisted on the goal which gave LIU a 1-0 advantage. Three minutes later, Drexel evened the score when Yiantsos scored unassisted.

The Blackbirds hit the crossbar or the post of the goal on four occasions, registering a 19-11 shot advantage over the Dragons (2-4).

The Blackbirds return to action on Sunday, September 17, hosting Binghamton at 1:00 p.m.
