Christine Gans Named BigAppleSoccer.com Women's Soccer Player of the Week

11/5/06 -- After an MVP performance at this weekend's Northeast Conference Women's Soccer tournament, senior Christine Gans was named the BigAppleSoccer.com Women's Player of the Week.

Gans assisted on both goals in Friday's semifinal match against Sacred Heart, then tallied the game-winning goal in Sunday's championship versus Monmouth. The Pittsburgh product also notched another assist, her league-leading 11th, in the 70th minute of the match to help seal the victory.

Gans' single-season total of assists is tops in the LIU all-time single season record book, breaking the previous record of eight which was most recently set by Nichole Lopez in 2003.

The Blackbirds won their second NEC tournament title and advance to the NCAA Women's College Cup, where they will face No. 1 seed Texas in Storrs, Conn. at 12:00 p.m.
