8/27/06 --The Long Island University women’s soccer team (0-2) was shut out by Pacific, 3-0, to close out its two-game, season-opening West Coast swing. Pacific’s Kelsey Nagel gave the Blackbirds fits, scoring two goals and adding an assist.

Nagel struck first in the 33rd minute off a free kick from 35 yards out. Then, in the second half, she fed teammate Suzy Peterson off another free kick to give Long Island a two-goal deficit. Nagel added an insurance goal in the 87th minute, beating LIU goaltender Stephanie Kansky with a header.

Kansky made 11 saves in the loss, while the Tigers’ Jaime Souza stopped four shots in earning the shutout. Pacific outshot LIU 25-5.

The Blackbirds will return to the pitch on Thursday, Aug. 31, for their home opener against Rider at 6:00 p.m.
