10/8/06 -- Senior forward Selima Berisha (Belluvue, Wash.) registered her fourth goal of the fall to lift Long Island University to a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference women’s soccer action on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, LIU (6-6-1, 3-0 NEC) stretches its unbeaten streak to three games and earns its second straight road victory after beginning the season 0-5 away from home. The Blackbirds own the only unblemished record in NEC action this season.

The winning tally came in the 59th minute when junior Amy Paige (San Jose, Calif.) lobbed a pass into the 18-yard box. Berisha fired a shot that rolled into the left corner of the goal, past Pioneers goalkeeper Ashley Mocarski. The goal was Berisha’s second game-winner of the season and pushes her career total to 11, one off the LIU career mark.

Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Kansky (Belluvue, Wash.) had six stops for the Blackbirds.

LIU returns to action on Friday, Oct. 13 hosting Quinnipiac at 6:00 p.m. The contest is the start of the squad’s annual alumni weekend and concludes with a showdown with Central Connecticut State on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1:00 p.m.
