9/29/06 -- Freshman Kim Bishop (Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded the first three goals of her career and seniors Allison Andreano (Denville, N.J.) and Christine Gans (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each had a goal and an assist as the Long Island University women's soccer team opened up Northeast Conference play with a convincing 6-0 victory over Wagner on Friday evening at LIU Field.

Freshman Aly Hanson (New Milford, N.J.) tallied her league-leading sixth goal of the season for the Blackbirds, who extended their home unbeaten streak to 22 games.

Gans opened up the scoring just 6:05 into play as her corner kick from the left side soared over Wagner goalkeeper Leslie Reed and directly into the net.

In the 26th minute, Andreano sent a pass from midfield down the right side to Gans. The Pittsburgh native sent a beautiful cross to Bishop, who was in front of the net for the header to give LIU a 2-0 advantage.

Just 14 minutes later, Bishop scored her second tally of the game. The left-footed player, who normally plays midfield but was at forward for this game, pressed the Seahawks’ defense into a giveaway. She cashed in on the mistake, scoring from point-blank range to extend the Blackbirds lead to 3-0.

The second half was much of the same, as Long Island scored three more times. Andreano recorded her goal on a penalty kick in the 68th minute, Hanson scored on a header off a corner kick by Nikki Allen (Spencer, Mass.) in the 84th minute and Bishop tallied her third goal of the game just four minutes later on a rebound shot from just inside the box.

Senior Stephanie Kansky (Bellevue, Wash.) and junior Felicia Amaral (Oxford, Mass.) combined on the shutout, with Amaral registering two saves on the day.

LIU returns to action on Friday, Oct. 6 as they travel to Fairleigh Dickinson for a conference road contest at 3:00 p.m.
