10/3/04 -- Long Island University dropped its first Northeast Conference contest of the season, 2-1 at Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday afternoon in Teaneck, N.J.

The Blackbirds (5-4-1, 2-1-1 NEC) struck first, netting the game's first goal in the 21st minute. Senior Tiffany Clendenning (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) launched the ball downfield and across the field to sophomore midfielder Christine Gans (Pittsburgh, Pa.).

Gans sent the ball ahead to classmate Allison Andreano (Denville, NJ), charging the box. Andreano brought out Knights' goalkeeper Andrea Maston and dribbled in, pushing a slow roller into the back of the net for the early advantage.

The Knights answered eight minutes later when freshman Alex White sent a rebound header past LIU netminder Stephanie Kansky (Belluvue, Wash.) to knot the score, 1-1.

The game-winner resulted in a questionable call in the 66th minute. Blackbirds defender Ashley O'Connor (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was whistled for a yellow card after a collision with Julia Ralph, who connected on the penalty kick.

Kansky registered four saves for the Blackbirds and her counterpart Maston made three.

The Blackbirds return to action on Saturday, October 9, traveling to Saint Peter's for a 12:00 pm non-conference contest.
