9/17/04 -- Senior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.) netted her second goal of the season and eighth of her career to lead Long Island University to a 1-0 victory over Stony Brook University at LaValle Stadium.

Sophomore forward Selima Berisha (Bellevue, Wash.), double-teamed as she streaked down the right side, fired a shot that appeared to be just wide. SBU goalkeeper Cindy Bennett, out of the box to play Berisha, turned her back on a Lopez who one-timed Berisha’s miss into the back of the net.

Freshman Felicia Amaral (Oxford, Mass.) earned her first career start, turning away two shots while sophomore Stephanie Kansky (Bellevue, Wash.) batted away the potential game-tying shot late in the second.

With the win, the Blackbirds improve to 3-3-0 while the Seawolves fell to 1-4-1 on the year..

The Blackbirds next travel to Binghamton for a Sunday afternoon contest. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
