10/24/04 -- Sophomore Selima Berisha (Bellevue, Wash.) scored her second goal of the season, but it was not enough for Long Island in a 2-1 Northeast Conference setback to St. Francis (PA) in Loretto, Pa.

Berisha netted her ninth career goal in the eighth minute to open the scoring for LIU (7-6-1, 3-3-1 NEC). She received a pass five yards out from senior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and buried a shot past goalkeeper Melanie Stockman.

Kirsten Hoffsmith scored the equalizer for the Red Flash in the 28th minute and Meghan Pearson added the decider in the 75th minute off a 25-yard shot.

The last goal came in the second half, a span in which the Blackbirds gained an 11-3 shots edge. Lopez closed with four shots overall to help LIU wind up with a 17-8 advantage.

Sophomore Stephanie Kansky (Bellevue, Wash.) made three saves for the Blackbirds and Stockman finished with eight for the Red Flash.

LIU returns home for a crucial NEC contest Friday against Quinnipiac. Kick-off is at 5:00 pm.
