10/9/04 -- Long Island University captured its sixth win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Saint Peter’s in Jersey City, N.J. this afternoon.

Senior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.) recorded an assist and the game-winner for the Blackbirds’ come-from-behind effort.

Saint Peter’s (0-12) took the lead in the seventh minute when Sarah Meier scored a bicycle-kick goal. Sophomore Ashley O’Connor (Ventia, Pa.) tallied the equalizer in the 24th minute with a blast from 10 yards after receiving a pass from Lopez on the left side.

The game remained tied until Lopez netted her third goal of the season. Sophomore Christine Gans (Pittsburgh, Pa.) served a nice ball from a corner kick and Lopez buried it from the middle of the box to give the Blackbirds a 2-1 advantage.

LIU (6-4-1) opened its lead in the 67th minute on a goal by Aminata Fall (Yonkers, N.Y.). The junior took the ball up the middle, beating the Peahens' defenders to the goal. The Blackbirds added their final tally in the 69th minute when freshman Amy Paige (San Jose, Calif.) scored her first of the season off a rebound.

LIU out shot the Peahens, 22-9, and held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Freshman Felicia Amaral (Oxford, Mass) played the first 80:50 in goal for LIU and made three saves. Sophomore Christina Chatman (Mount Olive, N.J.) came in for the final nine minutes with one save.

The Blackbirds will face NEC rival Wagner on Friday at 6:00 pm in Brooklyn.
