8/30/04 -- Sophomore Allison Andreano (Denville, N.J.) and senior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.) each scored their first goals of the season for Long Island in a 3-2 loss to UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev.

Down 1-0 entering the second half, LIU (1-1) tied it in the 56th minute thanks to Andreano's third career goal. She received a pass from junior Jackie McCormick (Liverpool, N.Y.) and fired a five-yard shot past goalkeeper Jenna Huff inside the right post.

Blynnda Bascones and Heather Killoch scored six minutes apart to help the Rebels (1-1) open a 3-1 cushion with 24 minutes left. Lopez halved the deficit in the 78th minute by heading in a free kick from senior Alison Dixon (Syracuse, N.Y.) for her seventh career tally.

Sophomore Stephanie Kansky (Bellevue, Wash.) made a career-high 10 saves for the Blackbirds, one better than her previous mark set September 14, 2003 against Cal State Northridge. Andreano closed with three shots.

Annii Magliulo finished with six shots and Katie Carney, who scored UNLV's first goal, ended with five. Huff closed with five saves.

LIU plays its home opener Friday against Rider, beginning at 7:00 pm.
