10/15/04 -- Sophomore Christine Gans (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and junior Meghann McCormick (Liverpool, N.Y.) each scored and freshman Felicia Amaral (Oxford, Mass.) posted her first collegiate shutout for Long Island in a 2-0 Northeast Conference victory over Wagner at LIU Field.

Gans scored in the 19th minute for the Blackbirds (7-4-1, 3-1-1 NEC) en route to their third straight victory over the Seahawks. She received a pass on the right side from junior Aminata Fall (Yonkers, N.Y.) and banged a shot in off the right post for her third goal of the season.

McCormick provided the insurance marker in the 24th minute, helping LIU move to 5-1-1 over its last seven outings. She took a feed on the left from senior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and launched a shot from 25 yards past goalkeeper Laura Priddy (Eden Prarie, Minn.) for her first goal of the year.

The scoring was more than enough for Amaral, who made three saves for her second collegiate victory. Priddy stopped three shots for the Seahawks (3-10, 1-4).

Fall put forth a solid outing in her first start of the season, firing five shots to help the Blackbirds gain a decided 19-4 edge including 11-1 in the first half. Sophomore Allison Andreano (Denville, N.J.) also had five shots and Lopez added three.

The Blackbirds owned a 13-1 edge in corner kicks that included a 10-1 margin after intermission.

LIU returns to action Friday, October 22 at Robert Morris for a 3:00 p.m. showdown.
