Amphone Keovongmanysar enters his sixth season as the Blackbirds’ assistant coach. He will continue to share all coaching responsibilities with head coach Tracey Bartholomew.
“Amphone is a tenacious worker, both on the recruiting and coaching ends,” Bartholomew said. “He and I have worked extremely hard to build this program.”
In addition to his role with the Blackbirds, Keovongmanysar in 2001 earned an advanced national license from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
This past Summer, Keovongmanysar earned his English FA youth coaching certificate. In the Spring of 2005, Keovongmanysar served as a U13 trainer for the Elmont Retros Stars girls team. In addition, he also coaches the U12 Boys Brooklyn Patriots. In November 2004, the multi-talented coach acted as the interpretor for the US U19 Women’s National Team at the FIFA U10 Women’s World Cup in Thailand.
Keovongmanysar arrived in downtown Brooklyn from Southbridge, Mass. where he earned a name for himself as one of the most well-respected youth coaches in the Commonwealth. From 1997 until 2000, Keovongmanysar was a coach in the Massachusetts Olympic Development Program.
The Laos native guided the Under-13 boys to a district championship in 1997 and coached the Under-12 boys to the district semifinals the following year. Keovongmanysar took on an additional role in 1999, coaching both the Under-15 boys and Under-13 girls Olympic Development squads. In 2000, he was the assistant director of both the boys’ and girls’ ODP.
Keovongmanysar was the boys’ varsity soccer coach for the Southbridge (MA) School Department from 1997-98. He led his team to its first district playoff berth in 17 years during his inaugural season and Southbridge reached the district semifinals for the first time in his final year.
From 1991-2000, Keovongmanysar was a coach and director of player development for the Southbridge Youth Soccer Association. He organized and implemented year-round soccer programs for children ranging from ages 4 to 18 and provided clinics for both players and coaches.

ABOUT COACH THOMAS

Denise Thomas begins her first season on the Blackbirds’ sideline. She is, however, no stranger to LIU soccer having played collegiately at Northeast Conference rival Central Connecticut State University.
Thomas was selected first team all-conference each of her four years at CCSU. One of the most decorated players in the NEC annals, she registered 10 goals and eight assists in her career primarily from the midfield position.
In 2004, Thomas shifted to defense and anchored a Blue Devils unit that allowed one goal or less in 11 contests and posted five shutouts.
The Rotherham, England native earned the league’s top honor, Player of the Year following her sophomore season in 2001.
Her intial campaign in 2000, Thomas earned the NEC Rookie-of-the-Year trophy and a place on the Soccerbuzz.com All-Freshman Northeast Team. In addition, she was tabbed CCSU’s Players’ Player of the Year.
A stellar competitor, Thomas also plays on the Irish National Team and this past summer honed her skills for the Boston Renegades of the W-League.. She graduated from St. Bernard’s Comprehensive in 1996. A two-year captain of the National Women’s Football Academy, she was the 1999 Player of the Year.
