10/7/06 -- The Long Island University women’s tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on the first day of competition at the Stony Brook Four-Way. H’Ann Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Blackbirds with a win in the No. 2 singles spot. The Freshman defeated Ksenia Chernyshova, 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Ashley Harvey (Randallstown, Md.) took home a win at the No. 4 singles spot, with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Tricia Small.

Sophomore Amy Hosotsuji (Toronto, Ontario) and senior Xenia Roman Korobochkina (Vera Cruz, Mexico) each scored 6-0, 6-0 straight-set wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively.

Long Island earned the doubles point with a pair of wins. The duo of Merve Koksal and Liliana Cortes defeated FDU’s Julia Korsunova and Small, 8-5, at the first spot. In the third doubles spot, the tandem of Hosotsuji and Roman Korobochkina played to an 8-0 victory over the Knights’ Neetu Singh and Joanne Encarnacion.

The Blackbirds will wrap up play at the Four-Way with a pair of matches on Sunday.
