The Long Island University women’s tennis team dropped
just two singles matches in 12 games to defeat St. Francis
(NY), 7-0 on Wednesday at the USTA Tennis Center.
At first singles, senior Jessica
Loose beat Anna Belfonte, 6-0, 6-1. Junior Merve Koksal (Ankara,
Turkey) and freshman Ashley Harvey (Randallstown, Md.) rolled
to 6-0, 6-0 triumphs at the second and fourth singles spots,
respectively.
Senior Krystina Bachner (Penfield,
N.Y.) was a victor at No. 3 singles, defeating Enisa Drekovic,
6-1, 6-0. The Blackbirds
also posted straight sets wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions
by freshman Amy Hosotsuji (Toronto, Canada) and senior Claudia
Arteaga (Cali, Columbia).
In doubles, the #1 team of Loose and Bachner blanked their opponent,
8-0. Koksal and Harvey teamed as the #2 doubles squad to post
an 8-0 win and Hosotsuji and senior Andrea Pertab won at the
third doubles team with an 8-1 score.
With the win, the Blackbirds improve to 10-9 overall.
