-- The Long Island University women's tennis team finished a perfect Northeast Conference season with a doubleheader sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson and St. Francis (N.Y.) on Friday. The Blackbirds (8-11, 4-0 NEC) beat the Knights, 4-3, and downed the Terriers, 5-1.

Senior Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) went 2-0 in singles play and then teamed with Liliana Cortes (Cochabamba, Bolivia) to win the No. 1 doubles match against FDU. Classmate Xenia Roman (Vera Cruz, Mexico) also won both of her singles matches as did sophomore Amy Hosotsuji (Toronto, Ontario).

LIU won three of the singles matches, the No. 3, 5 and 6 positions, against Fairleigh Dickinson and then took the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to take the closely-contested match, 4-3. Against St. Francis (N.Y.), LIU dropped only a single game in five singles matches before forfeiting the No. 6 match. The doubles were not played.

The victories gave Long Island its second consecutive unblemished regular season conference record heading into the Northeast Conference Championships, to be held on April 20-21 at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. LIU has made the finals in each of the last three seasons, finishing runner-up each time.
