-- Sophomore Liliana Cortes (Cochabamba, Bolivia) won her third consecutive singles match in helping the Long Island University women's tennis team snap a seven-match losing streak and remain perfect in Northeast Conference play with a 7-0 victory over Monmouth on Monday.

Cortes dropped only one game en route to her 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles over the Hawks' Laura Guiliari. The Blackbirds did not drop a set in their six singles matches and swept the doubles point, 3-0.

In doubles, senior Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) paired with Cortes for an 8-2 victory at the top doubles spot. The triumph pushes the pair to over .500 on the season at doubles (10-9).

Long Island looks to continue its winning ways on Friday, April 13 as it hosts Fairleigh Dickinson.
