The Long Island University women's tennis team fell to Seton Hall, 7-0, on Friday
afternoon. The Blackbirds extended three matches to third sets
but was unable to break through in any of them.
Sophomore Ashley Harvey (Randallstown,
Md.) won her first set against Amanda El-Tobgy, 6-2, at No.
2 singles. After losing the second, 4-6, the third set was
tied at 5-5 before
Tobgy rattled off two straight games to take the set, 7-5,
and the match.
Freshman H'Ann Johnson (St. John's,
Antigua) also took her opponent to a third set in the top singles
position. The Pirates' Ebru Burduroglu took the first set,
6-2, before Johnson stormed back to sweep the second, 6-0.
Johnson was unable to capitalize on the momentum, however,
and fell, 6-4, in the third and decisive set.
Also taking her opponent to a
third set was senior Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey). Koksal
took the second set, 7-5, but dropped the first and the third,
6-4.
In doubles, Harvey and fellow

match, 7-6, but did not finish due to the Blackbirds dropping
the other two doubles matches.
