6/13/07-- Long Island University senior Xenia Roman Korobochkina was named the Northeast Conference Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league on Wednesday afternoon. Roman Korobochkina was a second team All-NEC selection at #5 singles after winning seven matches on the year and going 4-1 against league competition. It marked the third career all-conference honor as she helped lead the Blackbirds to their fourth straight NEC runner-up finish.

The Vera Cruz, Mexico native is a five-time Dean’s List student at Long Island and has been nominated for Chi Sigma Alpha, the National College Athlete Honor Society. She was also awarded the LIU Leonard Ching International Student-Athlete Award, given annually to the school’s top international student-athlete. An economics major, Roman Korobochkina graduated with a 3.89 overall grade point average.

The honor marks the second consecutive year that a Blackbird women’s tennis player has earned the award, as former NEC Player of the Year Jessica Loose was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2006.
