4/10/05 -- Long Island was defeated by Seton Hall, 7-0, in women’s college tennis action at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. on Sunday.

Senior Veronica Apostu-Efremov (Bucharest, Romania) and junior Krystina Bachner (Penfield, N.Y.) captured the Blackbirds' lone victory, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. Apostu-Efremov took Ebru Burduroglu to three sets, but eventually fell at second singles, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Sophomore Merve Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) battled Viviana Figueroa to three sets before bowing, 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Xenia Roman (Vera Cruz, Mexico) also went to three sets at sixth singles for the Blackbirds, who drop to 10-6 overall and 5-4 in the spring season.

LIU plays its final NEC match of the season Friday against Monmouth at Stadium Racket Club in the Bronx at 6:00 pm. The Blackbirds will face Albany at 11:00 am on Saturday and Hartford at 11:00 am on Sunday in Flushing, N.Y.
