Withdrawal/Refund Policy

Students must initiate formal withdrawal procedures as outlined in the University Bulletin.  When students register for courses, they are considered to be in attendance until the date of their official withdrawal.  Failure to withdraw within posted deadline dates will result in the loss of possible refunds and/or grade changes.  The posted deadline dates are listed in the Academic Calendar and may be found in the Schedule of Classes and at http://www.brooklyn.liu.edu/registrar/academic_calendar.html

If a student withdraws after the fourth week of the semester, the symbol “W” will be entered on the transcript if satisfactory work was done up to the date of withdrawal.  If the student’s work was unsatisfactory, the symbol “WF” will be assigned by the instructor.  Students who are on academic probation and who withdraw from all courses are not eligible for readmission without the approval of the appropriate Dean.

Withdrawal Procedure

Students who wish to withdraw from one or more courses must obtain a withdrawal form from the Office of the Registrar.  The form must list the course(s) to be dropped as well as the section(s).  Students who are withdrawing from one or more but not all courses must obtain the signature of the Instructor.  Withdrawal from all courses does not require the Instructor’s or Dean’s signatures but it does require the student to see a counselor in the Office of Student Financial Services.

Students must submit the withdrawal form to the Office of the Registrar.

Appeal Procedure
A student who wishes to appeal any withdrawal decision should be advised that the deadline for the completion of the appeal process for reduction and/or cancellation of tuition is the last day of finals (please see the Academic Calendar in the Schedule of Classes).  For an appeal to be considered complete, the Office of the Registrar must be in possession of documentation, including but not limited to, an Attendance Verification Form from all of the instructors, and any documentation you wish to submit regarding attendance at another institution, proof of hospitalization or a medical condition that precluded you from attending classes, etc.
