Applying for Financial Aid at the Brooklyn Campus of
Long Island University

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Renewal FAFSA is the core application that students need to complete to apply for financial aid at the Brooklyn Campus. The FAFSA is available on the Internet (see above link), and electronic filling is the best way to receive a timely and more accurate response.  Click “Filling Out a FAFSA” to complete a FAFSA online.

The electronic FAFSA information is required of all students seeking scholarships or grants, federal or state financial aid, tuition remission benefits, etc.  All students, regardless of financial circumstances are urged to complete the FAFSA.

Long Island University has one Federal School Code which is 002751.  All students should use this school code regardless of which campus of L.I.U. they attend.  Using the 002751 number will insure that all electronic information is sent to the University.

A Federal Student Aid PIN (Personal Identification Number) is required to complete the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA, or to make a correction.  It is strongly recommended that all students and at least one parent of dependent students obtain a Federal Student Aid PIN.  To apply for a Federal Student Aid PIN go to www.pin.ed.gov and click “APPLY FOR PIN.”  Continuing students who lost their Federal Student Aid PIN can apply for a duplicate PIN by clicking on “REQUEST A DUPLICATE PIN” on this same site.

Note:  Completing the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA, or making a FAFSA correction, or applying for a PIN or a Duplicate PIN Request will not actually take place until a confirmation number has been received from the federal website.

Financial Aid Deadline Dates:
In order to apply for the maximum financial aid available, continuing students must meet a deadline date of March 15th every year. This is the deadline date for consideration of campus-based financial aid, which includes the Federal SEOG Program, Federal Perkins or Health Professions Student Loans, Federal Work Study/America Reads Program and SDS Awards.  Entering first-time students have a rolling deadline date and should check with the Office of Student Financial Services shortly after receiving their admissions notification.

All students should check the deadline dates section of this website for important dates, including deadlines for Federal Pell Grants and Federal Direct Student Loans.
