Helen Saffran joined the Office of Public Relations at the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University in 1979. During her tenure, she has served as acting public relations director for the department and as an adjunct professor for the Campus, teaching English and a first-semester course for incoming students. Prior to that, she worked for 11 years as a copy editor for International Universities Press, a publisher of psychological and psychoanalytic books and journals. She holds a master's degree in psychology of school subjects from Columbia University's Teachers College and an undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Helen coordinates the editorial development of the Campus' undergraduate, graduate and pharmacy course bulletins, and assists in producing the commencement program. She also writes and edits news releases and articles for Long Island University Magazine and the Campus newsletter, Brooklyn Beat.

Alka Gupta joined the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University in 1998, bringing with her a range of editorial and communications experiences. She served as associate public information specialist for New York City's Human Resources Administration from 1988 to 1994. Prior to that, she was a writer and editor for the Hearst home design and architecture magazine, Colonial Homes, and a staff reporter for the business newspaper, The Money Manager. Alka received master's degrees in political science and journalism from New York University and an undergraduate degree from Barnard College.

As assistant public relations director, Alka writes and edits news releases, focusing especially on the rich array of dance, music and other cultural events at the Brooklyn Campus. She also produces "Downtown and Upbeat," the bimonthly cultural calendar distributed to the campus and the neighboring community. Alka often writes speeches for Provost Gale Stevens Haynes as well as articles for Long Island University Magazine and the newsletter, Brooklyn Beat.

Greg Fox has served as sports information director (SID) on the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University since 1995, when he succeeded 28-year director Bob Gesslein. He handles day-to-day publicity and media relations for all 15 of LIU's Division I sports programs. Greg is also responsible for all athletics publications on the Campus, and develops and implements marketing strategies for the department of athletics and the Schwartz Athletic Center.

Prior to coming to LIU, he served in the athletics front office at Fairleigh Dickinson University from 1994 to 1995 assisting in the management of the 5,000-seat Rothman Center and the University's physical education department.

Greg, who received his B.S. degree in marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson in 1988, began his career as a student assistant in the SID office there in 1985. He interned with the New Jersey Nets for one season before returning to FDU as interim SID, eventually assuming the role of assistant SID.

Born and bred in Brooklyn, Greg currently resides in Palisades Park, NJ.
